Housing Mismatch Model (HMM)
This compares the types of home occupied by households of different lifestyle profiles and allows us to forecast what type of home will be needed on a local basis as households progress through the lifestages – e.g. families require a different type of home to young singles and couples.
It allows us to forecast gaps in the housing mix and to identify what is required to satisfy demand in a given horizon year. It can, for example:
 prevent the oversupply of apartments seen in inner cities in recent years
 ensure a balanced mix of housing types in one area, so that communities can be kept together through different lifestages
